Aim

The main aim of the 4th International SAVEZ Conference "Strengthening Public Health Systems“ was the support of the key role of public health in the process of health development of citizens. Public health professionals together with invited representatives from state institutions, self-government and non-governmental organisations discussed about the new possibilities for interdisciplinary, intersectoral and international co-operation in the field of public health policy, education and training, research and practice.

The conference was accompanied by 3 associated events: the V4 STEPS Workshop, Workshop on Science Communication and Communicating Science and the WHO/BCA Workshop

Associated events

“V4 STEPS“ workshop
Workshop was carried out within the international co-operation on STEPS project - Strengthening Engagement in Public Health Research (FP7, No. 217605). Workshop participants are partners from Poland, Hungary and Czech republic. The main aim of the workshop on “Strengthening Engagement of the Visegrad Countries in Public Health Research Development and Cooperation” was to provide a platform for exchange of information and examples of good practice in the field of public health research within the V4 countries and to discuss opportunities for further international collaboration.
Each partner had a specific role in the project. The partners from Poland and Czech Republic shared their experience in producing research output, whereas Slovakia and Hungary discussed their experience with involving CSOs into public health research and priority development. The possibility to share examples of good practice within counties with similar historical, economic and political background speed up the transfer of knowledge. All this is expected to increase the competitiveness of the V4 countries in the European research area. (For more details see Output: V4 STEPS Workshop - Book of Proceedings.

Workshop “Science Communication and Communicating Science“
Workshop on Science Communication and Communicating Science was primarily intended for young researchers and PhD students, but also for employees of public health institutions who are carrying out research. Workshop was dedicated to development of skills in writing and publishing scientific articles. It discussed opportunities, challenges and common mistakes when writing a scientific (S)SCI article as well as preparing poster presentations for the international scientific conferences and congresses. The main aim of the workshop was training of public health professionals and researchers in publishing internationally and thus increasing the competitiveness of Slovak researchers in the European research area.

WHO/BCA workshop (only for invited participants)
WHO/BCA Workshop was carried out within a 2 year Bilateral Collaboration Agreement (BCA) between WHO Europe and Ministry of Health of SR signed for years 2010/2011. The was primarily aimed at capacity building of public health professionals. It was a closed meeting, i. e. it was intended only for invited employees of the Regional Public Health Authorities from Slovakia. The workshop provided grounding in differentiation of key methods of public health work, different forms of intersectoral research-practice-policy collaboration and relevance of health inequality issue for the Slovak Republic.  It also created a platform for sharing experience on intersectoral collaboration via examples of good practice from Denmark as well as other European countries.
